E-learning for Project Management Abstract Bournemouth University has led the way in developing collaborative online learning facilities. In 2003 BU was a partner in launching an online foundation degree in Business and Management. The course was delivered entirely online to students worldwide and included a unit on Project Management. Learning materials developed for the online programme were subsequently adapted for use by full-time on-campus students. The result was a ‘blended learning’ version of Project Management in the second year of the BA(Hons) Business Studies programme. Most recently the same material was further adapted for use with part-time students. The experience of e-learning for project management within the Business School at BU has provided a unique opportunity to develop ideas about teaching, learning and assessment in a virtual environment. We have been able to examine the impact of changes to activities and assessment on different types of student, and highlight some implications for project management education. This seminar will explore the issues and opportunities of e-learning for Project Management through a discussion of the experience within the Business School at BU. Some implications for project management education of different modes of learning and teaching will be highlighted. Opportunities for enhancing project management learning will also be identified and suggestions made for good practice. Karen Thompson, July 2009 |
